The Telephone Automatic Test System is a simple structure of mechanical and electronic components by which a telephone set can be completely tested without the intervention of an Operator.  The Operator is only required for loads and unloads the telephone under test.

The Telephone Automatic Test System can be arranged in two solutions:
-To test a complete PSTN telephone set (Base + Handset).
-To Test telephone Base only.

This second solution is preferred by many manufacturers for large amount of telephone, where the Handsets are produced and tested separately, eventually by our Handset Automatic Testing

complete solution

CS8014 drives both the automatic test Equipment CS8102 and the automatic Test Head AC-4 BRA.
The Operator inserts the telephone body into the mechanical actuator, and then place the handset on the Test Head.
When both the devices are correctly placed, the test program starts, inserting the cord into the Handset connector and taking the connection with the telephone base.
Pneumatic fingers actuate the keyboard and other telephone controls.

base only solution

CS8014 drives the automatic test Equipment CS8102.
The Operator inserts the telephone body into the mechanical actuator, and then the test program starts taking the connection with the telephone base and starting the test sequence.
The acoustic performances are evaluated in electrical mode only, through the AE-1 "Electrical Coupler" able to simulate the impedance and the sensitivity of the Handset transducers.
The acceptance limits to be programmed must be correlated with the true response of the handset transducers.

The Telephone Test System is composed by the following devices:

Basic Test Equipment CS8014 Basic Controller able to perform all the tests required by the PSTN telephone Set.
Automatic Test Head
(for the complete solution)
AC-4BRA Test Head equipped with Ear simulator and Mouth Simulator. It supports the handset under test in the correct modal position.
The AC-4INS inserts the cable into the handset connector. Must be designed on the handset shape.
Electrical Coupler
(for the base only solution)
AE-1 AE-1 simulates the electroacoustic parts of a telephone set  that can be tested without handset.
Short message transceiver SMS-4  It lets CS8014 be able to test functionally the PSTN Telephone Equipments (TE) equipped with the Short Message Service function.
Automatic Telephone test Fixture CS8102 The fixture is able to lock the telephone set under test and to actuate the keyboard and the other controls of the telephone. It make the connections trough the line plug and/or the handset plug.

If required the equipment is equipped with a simple mouth simulator and a little acoustic chamber with inside a measure microphone to evaluate the Hands-free acoustics and the ringer level. You can easily calibrate the acoustic devices.

An optional bar code reader lets possible the correct association between the test results and the serial number of the telephone under test. All the data can be recorded onto a database to obtain, off-line, a complete production report, for the complete traceability.

The typical testing time for a telephone set - base only, excluded the handling, but including the Caller Identifier and the Short Messages features, is about 56 seconds for an exhaustive testing on each subset.

The complete solution, here described, lets possible to make the functional tests listed on the following table:

Test Cases

• Transmission Measurements Receiving, sending and side-tone sensitivities and frequency responses (see table). Handset, hands-free or electric, via a Tranducer Simulator AE-1
• Dial & Keypad Testing for Pulse or DTMF
• Calling Testing generation & sound level measurement
• Insulation & DC Measurements • Insulation up to 250V
• V(I) measurements on-hook or off-hook
• I(t) measurements for transient evaluation
• Switching • switch-hook test
• other switch sequences
• Network Tones (optional) • network tones generator
• DTMF generator
• Caller Identifier (optional) • FSK-V23 caller identifier generator
• DTMF caller identifier generator
• on-hook & off-hook operations
• Short Messages (optional) • Submits and Delivers Short Messages from/to telephone under test (ETSI ES 201 912 -protocol 1 and 2).
